Since we have figured out from living in SE Asia that Chinese New Year is a BIG deal and everything closes down for about a week, we decided to spend a few nights in Singapore. Civilization is more fun than the jungle! We stayed at the Pan Pacific hotel on the 34th floor and had a WONDERFUL front row view of the fireworks on New Year's Eve from our balcony. It had been rainy off and on all day, so the sky was cloudy but they were still able to put on a terrific show. The next morning the hotel had the dragon dance in the lobby and the front area. I never tire of watching this! This is year of the rabbit--hence the bunny pic.
On New Year's Day we went to the new Marina Bay Sands hotel and casino to look around. It is a beautiful facility and quite impressive. We went up to the Skypark on top of the hotel--57 floors up. It was a great vantage point for Singapore and we had a relatively clear morning so the view was nice.
We spent the next few days wandering around Clarke Quay and Holland Village, or just hanging out at the hotel relaxing. A very nice mini-vacation. Happy Chinese New Year to all!!
