Last Friday night Jeff spotted a large Malaysian Monitor Lizard on our pool deck. Wanting a picture to prove how big he was, I come flying through the back door with my camera and scared it into our swimming pool. It swam/floated to the bottom of the deep end and stayed down there at least 10 minutes. It came up once for air, then went back for another 10 minutes. It FINALLY sticks it's head up over the edge of the pool and stays there a few minutes. (I guess it decided the crazy woman wasn't going to chase it any longer.) Just as it crawled completely out of the water, a Kingfisher (beautiful blue bird common here) swooped down and started repeatedly pecking the lizard on the head until it ran QUICKLY back to it's hole in the far side of our yard.
The moral of this story is two-fold:
** ALWAYS, ALWAYS check the pool before getting in.
**NEVER, NEVER swim at night (even though the pool has underwater lights...you just never know).
