May 5th we left Munich and drove over into Switzerland to Busingen, located on Lake Constance. It was a pretty drive over and the weather was just perfect! The hotel was very quaint and only had a few rooms. They updated us to a suite and it was incredibly unique, to say the least. The first floor of the room had a sofa, chair and small t.v., along with the bathroom and a small, child-size hand carved wood bed. The REAL bedroom was up a spiral (very narrow) staircase. Interesting!After getting settled we drove to Stein am Rhein, a little village about 20 minutes away. It was an old German town (we saw MANY during the week) and we had lunch at a crepe place (one of the few places that had a menu in English). It was great and fun to sit out on the cobblestone sidewalk. Probably a good time to say that the Germans aren't that worried about language issues. Most things (especially in the smaller towns) are ONLY in German and the people, overall, did not know a lot of English. Made for some interesting conversations:-) We shopped around after lunch and enjoyed beautiful Lake Constance. Probably ANOTHER good time to say that I shopped SO much on our trip that we had to buy an extra suitcase to make it on to Dallas. Oh well!
We headed back to the hotel and had coffee at the hotel sidewalk cafe. It must have been one of the first nice days, weather-wise, so we enjoyed watching the boats putter by as people seemed to be soaking up the sun. Dinner was at the REALLY nice hotel restaurant and it was delicious!
